Blog constipation

Do you ever have blog constipation? You know, when you want to blog but you just can't?

I'm having that right now. There's something I want to talk about but for various reasons I can't. I mean, I guess I can, there's certainly no law against it. I choose not to though for the sake of peace and harmony in my off-line life. I have to say though, it's killing me. It's taking something that I'm already tense about and making it ten times worse.

It's not until situations like this come up that I realize how much I really rely on blogging. It's an emotional release valve for me. If I can get it all out here then it doesn't eat at me as much. If I keep it inside and non-blogged then it pick, pick, picks at my brain.

Now this thing I'm tense about isn't a big deal and in a few days it will be a non-issue. I have chosen not to talk about it through because it involves people other than me. There's not a lot about myself that I won't share on this blog. I talk about almost every aspect of my life. I do censor myself on a few topics though. I try not to say anything about my kids that will hurt or humiliate them in the future. That's not to say that I shy away from talking about when they are being horrid little monsters but since they are good most of the time I think the overall tone when I talk about them is loving. The same goes for Jesse. He might get a little teasing on this blog but if there's an actual issue between us I keep it between us and not on the blog. I don't talk a lot about my extended family or Jesse's extended family because I am not interested in causing family strife with my stupid little blog. That's just not worth it.

So now I find myself in a situation where I can't talk about what I want to talk about and I can't talk about anything else! I can only talk about how I can't talk about something. Oh blogging, you have warped me.

What about you? Are there things you consider "off limits"? Why? Does the potential reaction of people you know cause you to censor yourself? Or do you just let it all out there, consequences be damned?

One year ago today we had a fixation situation with Joseph.
Two years ago today my bra tried to kill me.
Three years ago today I had a cold. And I'm getting one today too.

While I have started to write blog entries about the Mr. and frustrations, I know my blog is mostly read by people I know in real life. That's off limits for me. And I'm with you about humiliating or hurting my kids, too. I also don't talk about my job much (mostly because there isn't much interesting to talk about), but also because I wouldn't wish any ill-will for my employer as a result of something stupid I said on my blog.

Maybe you could invent a lot of code names and include the word "hypothetically" a lot. This always works on TV! No one would ever figure it out!

There is definately some stuff I want to blog about, but can't. Everyone that has been really pissing me off lately reads my blogs! UGH. I am thinking about making another one and not telling them about it. lol.

I used to have a strictly personal blog, but all of the interesting tidbits about my life were "off-limits". So I gave up on that and switched to the format I have now. Much easier... So does that say that overall my life was too boring to blog about, or that I overly censored everything I wrote? Oh well

I try not to talk about stuff or say things that I'm not willing to tell someone in person. When I bitch about my husband, I'll usually encourage him to read it, because I know how crazy I sound.
I think the one thing I'd like to talk more about is work, but since right now I'm having an internal struggle about public schools and the needs of the children I think it's best I keep my mouth shut for awhile. =)

I know what you are saying, completely! I sometimes have so many things to write about...but just can't. So then, I have NOTHING to write about. Blah.

I have a similar policy with another commenter... I only write things on my blog that I would say to someone in person. It's a "safe" policy so I don't have to worry so much about what I'm writing.

Hang in there!

There are lots of things I don't write about - sex, the number of times I poop a day, and specifics of my work. I also have a family health thing I'm not talking about right now (except here in this comment apparently) that is stressing me out a lot right now.

I did write a post quite recently about something my husband said that hurt my feelings. Since I told him about it almost immediately after I hit the publish button, I thought it was okay, but I'm going to have to deal with his privacy better in some way from here on out. It's a semi-anonymous blog, but I guess someone could figure out who I was, I guess!

I have similar rules as you. I'll make an ass of myself and poke fun at my family, but I try not to talk about other people. And I totally get what you mean about needing to blog to get the emotions out. I had a really tough videography client a while back and I wanted nothing more than to complain, complain, complain about her on my blog, but I absolutely will not talk about work on my blog, so I was stuck. Can I talk about her here? Oh, she was horrid.

There is not much I won't blog about. I blog about sex, hubs, my nutso family, etc....

I have one blog that nobody in my family reads.

Jen..... this is from your MIL....a really old fashioned suggestion....its called a diary, or a journal... I know, you'd have to hand write it, but no one ever needs to see it, and ten years from now when you find it stuck in a box somewhere, you can re-read it, laugh and recylce it!!
Hope that helps!! Judy
